Applying a long-lasting coating over poorly prepared paint does not solve the defects underneath it.

Before ceramic protection is applied, the vehicle needs to be cleaned, decontaminated and assessed properly.

The preparation required depends on the individual vehicle.

A nearly new car may need relatively little correction.

A vehicle carrying swirl marks, wash marring, holograms or deeper defects may benefit from paint correction first.

We recommend the preparation the paint actually needs rather than automatically polishing every vehicle or applying coating over defects that should have been addressed first.

    The exterior is properly cleaned so the condition of the surfaces can be assessed.

    Decontamination

    Bonded contamination is removed where necessary to leave the surface ready for further preparation.

    Paint assessment

    The paint is checked for swirl marks, scratches, previous polishing and other defects that may affect the finished result.

    Correction where required

    Where the paint would genuinely benefit from polishing or correction, the appropriate process is discussed before coating.

    Final surface preparation

    The surfaces being coated are prepared appropriately so the coating can bond correctly.

    The chosen coating is applied methodically under suitable conditions.

Designed to add durable protection while enhancing the depth and gloss of properly prepared surfaces.

Dynasty is the longest-lasting ceramic coating currently offered by Sunshine Valets.

Built on the Reign system, it is intended for customers who want our highest level of long-term ceramic paint protection.

It provides strong hydrophobic behaviour, gloss and protection from environmental exposure with a stated lifespan of up to ten years.

Reign or Dynasty? Compare coatings

New Car Futureproof is the Sunshine Valets starting point for newly purchased, newly delivered and new lease vehicles that you want to keep looking their best from the beginning.

Rather than relying on a dealership protection package, the vehicle is professionally prepared and protected from the start of ownership.

It is designed for new and newer vehicles rather than aged paintwork carrying heavy swirls or significant wear.

Ceramic protection can then be selected according to the level of long-term protection you want.

New paint still gets inspected

A new vehicle should not automatically be machine polished simply because a ceramic coating is being applied.

Equally, new cars are not guaranteed to arrive defect-free.

Transport, dealership washing and preparation can introduce light marks before the vehicle reaches its owner.

We inspect the finish first.

If the paint only needs cleaning and preparation, that is what it gets.

If defects are present that would genuinely benefit from correction, we can explain the options before coating them over.

The process should fit the vehicle rather than the other way around.

Already carrying swirl marks or scratches?

Ceramic coating does not remove defects.

If the paint already has swirl marks, wash marring, holograms or scratches, coating it will preserve the surface but it will not correct what is underneath.

Where appropriate, paint correction can be carried out first.

This improves the actual paint finish before ceramic protection is applied over it.

Realistic expectations

Protection, not armour

Ceramic coating is effective paint protection, but there are limits.

It does not make paint scratch-proof.

It does not prevent stone chips.

It does not stop damage from careless washing.

It does not mean the vehicle never needs cleaning again.

And it cannot repair defects already present in the paint.

If protection against physical stone chips is the priority, ceramic coating is not a replacement for paint protection film.

The point of ceramic coating is durable surface protection and easier maintenance, not unrealistic promises.

Preparation comes from experience

My background in surface preparation and paintwork started before Sunshine Valets.

I spent two years studying vehicle refinishing, completed an apprenticeship at a custom car garage specialising in classic Volkswagens and went on to work in a vehicle bodyshop.

I later joined Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth as a yacht painter and refinisher before moving into professional yacht crew aboard superyachts measuring up to 124 metres.

Looking after high-value finishes in those environments reinforced something that still shapes the way I work today:

The final protective product is only as good as the surface underneath it.

That same approach now carries over into the preparation and protection of vehicle paintwork through Sunshine Valets.

Reign is Sunshine Valets' 7-year ceramic coating option. Dynasty is the flagship coating with a stated lifespan of up to 10 years. Both are designed for long-term ceramic protection, with Dynasty intended for customers looking for the longest-lasting option we currently offer.

Reign ceramic coating is currently £200 and Dynasty ceramic coating is £300 as coating add-ons. The total cost depends on the preparation or underlying detailing service the vehicle requires. New Car Futureproof starts from £500.

No. Ceramic coating is not scratch-proof. It can add surface protection, but scratches can still be introduced through washing, contact or everyday use.

No. Ceramic coating is not a substitute for paint protection film and will not prevent physical impact damage such as stone chips.

Not automatically. We inspect the paint first. Vehicles with swirl marks, holograms, scratches or other defects may benefit from correction before coating, while well-kept or new paint may require much less intervention.
